ExoClick advertising for AI companion sites: costs, formats, Smart Bid and tracking (2026)
ExoClick is one of the first networks most AI companion operators test, and one of the easiest to waste money on. Here is how to set it up so the data works for you, using only what ExoClick's own docs say.
ExoClick advertising works for AI companion sites when you treat it as a data engine, not a magic traffic tap: deposit the 200 EUR/USD minimum, start one country and one format on Smart CPM, pass the click ID to your tracker, fire a postback on every paid signup, and switch to Smart Bid once the campaign has recorded its first conversions.
Below: costs, formats, pricing models, targeting, tracking and the hard limits, so you can budget a first test without guessing. Every figure below comes from ExoClick's published advertiser docs, checked on October 31, 2026, unless another source is linked.
Is ExoClick a good ad network for AI companion offers?
For most operators, yes, as one of the first two networks you test. Google and Meta reject most sexual and companionship-themed adult advertising, so AI girlfriend and companion sites buy traffic from adult networks. ExoClick describes itself as an entertainment ad network operating since 2006, and its strengths for this vertical are practical ones:
- Format range. Banners, popunders, instant message units, full-page interstitials, push, native widgets, in-stream, outstream and vertical video all sit in one account.
- Bidding. Six pricing models, including Smart Bid, which optimizes toward a target cost per acquisition or return on ad spend.
- Granular control. You can target or block up to 4,000 zones and 2,000 domains per campaign and pass the site and zone IDs to your tracker on every click.
The weakness is a long tail of publishers of uneven quality; with loose tracking, budget drains into placements that never convert. The best adult ad networks comparison covers how it stacks up against TrafficJunky, TrafficStars and JuicyAds; this guide goes deep on ExoClick alone.
How much does it cost to advertise on ExoClick?
ExoClick's payments documentation says it works only on a pre-payment basis and the minimum payment for every method is 200 EUR/USD. Funds post instantly for every method except wire transfer.
| Item | What the docs say |
|---|---|
| Minimum deposit | 200 EUR/USD, all payment methods |
| Payment methods | Credit or debit card (manual or auto recharge), wire transfer, Paxum, crypto; UnionPay only for advertisers based in China |
| Crypto | Network exchange fees may apply; do not send from an exchange platform; restricted in several countries and US states |
| VAT | EU advertisers without a valid VAT number have 21% VAT deducted; 21% always applies in Spain |
| Daily budget per campaign | Minimum 20, maximum 20,000 |
| Total budget per campaign | Minimum 20, maximum 20,000,000 |
| Maximum bids | CPC campaigns 3; CPM for video, push and popunder 400; CPM for all other formats 50 |
The payments page does not mention refunds, so deposit only what you plan to spend. Minimum CPM and CPC prices are not in the docs; check the View Minimum Prices tool in the Admin Panel for your exact targeting before setting bids.

Which ExoClick ad formats work best for AI companion sites?
Companion offers sell an experience: a character, a chat, a sense of being noticed. Formats that look like a conversation or that take over the screen tend to suit that better than small banners. ExoClick's ad formats page gives the specs:
| Format | Key specs | Fit for companion offers |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile instant message | 300x100 | Strong. The docs call it very efficient for dating and live cam products, and a chat-style unit matches a chat product. |
| Instant message (desktop) | 300x250 at the bottom of the page | Strong for the same reason. |
| Popunder | Your landing page URL | High volume and cheap; needs a fast pre-lander. |
| Full-page interstitial | 1600x900 desktop, 900x1600 mobile | Good for a single striking character image. |
| Push notification | 720x480 or 192x192 icon; title up to 50 characters, description up to 90 | Useful for message-style hooks; no web push on Safari. |
| Native widget | Image 300x300 to 900x900; title and description up to 90 characters | Good for story or curiosity angles. |
| Banner | 300x250, 300x500, 728x90, 160x600, 900x250; 300 KB max | Fine for retargeting; weaker for cold traffic. |
| Vertical video | 9:16, at least 480x854, 5 to 30 seconds | Promising if you have compliant short clips; a view counts after 3 seconds. |
Start with mobile instant message (to test creative and character) plus popunder (volume for the landing page and paywall) in one tier-one country. Add interstitials or native once the funnel converts.
How do ExoClick's pricing models work?
The pricing and limits documentation lists six models, and not every format supports every model:
- CPM: a fixed price per thousand impressions.
- Smart CPM: you set a maximum and pay only what is needed to win the placement.
- CPC: pay per click.
- Smart CPC: for email clicks and direct link only.
- CPV: for in-stream and vertical video only.
- Smart Bid: you set a target CPA or target ROAS and the system bids per impression.
Popunders support CPM, Smart CPM and Smart Bid only. Banners, push, interstitials, native and mobile banners support CPM, Smart CPM, CPC and Smart Bid. Choose carefully at creation: the docs say you cannot switch a campaign from CPC to CPM or Smart Bid (except direct link and email clicks), and video campaigns cannot change to or from CPV after creation.
For a companion offer, start on Smart CPM: it caps what you pay while you learn which zones convert.
How does ExoClick Smart Bid work, and when should you use it?
Smart Bid is the main reason to run ExoClick seriously. Per the Smart Bid documentation:
- You choose a Target CPA or Target ROAS goal. Target ROAS needs a conversion goal with a fixed or dynamic value.
- There is no minimum budget, but the model needs data. Optimization typically begins after the campaign records 5 conversions for its goal, and it typically takes 20 to 30 conversions to hold the target consistently. Until then, the campaign bids at your initial CPM.
- The model retrains daily on recent data. Changing the target, goal or optimization method resets what it has learned.
- "Maximize Volume" is the recommended starting option; the docs warn against choosing the more conservative target-holding option too early.
- You can enable Smart Bid on an active Smart CPM campaign, and ExoClick recommends doing so.
The practical sequence is: launch on Smart CPM, get tracking firing, collect a handful of paid conversions, then switch to Smart Bid on Maximize Volume with a target CPA set from your real numbers, not from hope.
Setting a target CPA from your own economics
Here is a hypothetical worked example. The figures are illustrative, not ExoClick or WhiteLabelFans data. Say your site's average paying user generates $40 in gross revenue over their lifetime and you want ad spend to stay under half of that. Your break-even target CPA per paying user is $20. If 1 in 8 free signups pays, your target CPA per free signup is $2.50. If you optimize Smart Bid toward the paid conversion instead, set the goal near $20 and expect fewer conversions per day, which means the model needs longer to reach the 20 to 30 conversions it wants.
On a white-label platform the math changes because you are not paying for the product build or the AI costs. With WhiteLabelFans, for example, the operator earns a share of up to 60% of total site revenue, so on $40 of lifetime revenue per paying user your take would be up to $24, and that is the number your target CPA has to fit under. The AI companion site earnings page walks through the revenue side in more detail.
What targeting options does ExoClick offer?
Step 3 of campaign setup (targeting documentation) covers:
- Location (mandatory), devices, operating systems and versions, languages and browsers.
- Mobile carriers. Choosing Wi-Fi only prevents choosing any carrier.
- Ad schedule (day-parting with a time zone).
- Retargeting, which requires conversion tracking and ideally at least three days of conversion data first.
- Domains, keywords and IP ranges. Keywords must match the content you target, or the campaign will not receive traffic.
- Proxy types, including VPN, hosting and anonymous proxy, which you can use to filter low-quality traffic.
- Age verification status: verified or not verified (SFW).
That last option matters more every quarter. With age verification laws spreading across US states, the UK and the EU, being able to buy only traffic from publishers that report verified visitors is a real compliance and quality lever. Our adult AI content rules guide covers what each platform and jurisdiction requires.
A common mistake: domain filters in step 3 and zone filters in step 5 combine by intersection. The zone targeting FAQ says that if the two lists have nothing in common, the campaign will not receive traffic.
How do you set up ExoClick conversion tracking?
Without conversion tracking you cannot use Smart Bid, retargeting or automatic optimization on conversion rate, so set it up before you spend. The conversion tracking documentation describes two methods.
Server-to-server postback
- Create a conversion goal in the Admin Panel. Goal types include lead (single or double opt-in), subscription and purchase, and website interaction. Pick a value type: no value, fixed or dynamic.
- Choose a conversion window: 12 hours, 24 hours (the default), 2, 3, 7, 30 or 90 days, or a custom 1 to 90 days. For a companion site, a 7-day window usually captures users who sign up free and pay a few days later.
- Add the {conversions_tracking} token to your campaign URL in step 2. ExoClick replaces it with a click ID between 150 and 700 characters long, so make sure your tracker and database field can store that.
- When a user converts, your server or tracker calls the postback URL on s.magsrv.com with the goal ID and the stored click ID, plus a value parameter for dynamic goals.
ExoClick changed its postback domain to s.magsrv.com, so check older tracker templates. ExoClick publishes setup manuals for trackers including Voluum, RedTrack, Binom, Keitaro and AdsBridge.
Pixel
The alternative is a JavaScript tag in the body of your welcome page. It is quicker to install but misses conversions that happen on a processor's hosted payment page, so fire paid conversions as postbacks from your payment webhook.
How do you find and block bad placements on ExoClick?
This is where ExoClick campaigns are won or lost. Pass these tokens from the dynamic tokens list to your tracker on every click:
- {site_id} and {zone_id}: the site and ad zone that served the ad.
- {src_hostname}: the publisher's site name.
- {variation_id}: which creative was shown.
- {country}, {format} and {keyword}.
- {cost}: so your tracker can calculate ROI per zone.
- {ex_av}: the visitor's age verification status, when the publisher shares it.
Then run a simple weekly routine: sort zones by spend, block any zone that has spent more than your target CPA two or three times over without a conversion, and move consistent converters into a separate whitelist campaign with a higher bid. The per-campaign limits are generous, per the campaign limitations page: 4,000 zones targeted or blocked, 2,000 domains targeted and 2,000 blocked, 1,000 IPs and 500 keywords.
How fast does ExoClick approve campaigns, and why do they get rejected?
ExoClick's compliance team works around the clock and aims to review campaigns within 30 minutes, longer at busy times, per its approval FAQ. Campaigns from new or returning advertisers are first held for account verification, normally completed within 24 hours, and campaigns are not processed when the account has no funds. Any campaign, even a running one, can be rejected at any time.
The rejection FAQ lists the common reasons, and several bite companion offers directly:
- 18 U.S.C. 2257 compliance: banners or landing pages where models look too young and no disclaimer is visible. Every character in your creative and on your site must clearly read as an adult.
- Wrong category selected. Pick the adult category that matches the creative.
- HTML campaigns must be SSL compliant. Serve landers over HTTPS.
- Copyright infringement. Do not use real people's likenesses, celebrity names or borrowed brand assets in AI characters or ads.
- No traffic for your targeting. A campaign with no traffic after 30 days is rejected automatically.
The docs do not publish specific rules for AI-generated or chatbot advertising, so read ExoClick's full advertiser guidelines before launch and keep claims honest: say the companion is AI, avoid implying a real person is waiting to meet the user, and keep landing pages consistent with the ad.
A first ExoClick test plan for a companion site
A sensible first test, built only from the limits above:
- Budget: one 200 EUR/USD deposit, split across two campaigns at a daily cap you can afford to lose while learning (the daily minimum is 20).
- Campaign A: mobile instant message, one tier-one country, Smart CPM, 4 to 6 creative variations on Automatic CTR distribution.
- Campaign B: mobile popunder, same country, Smart CPM, pointing to a fast pre-lander that hands off to signup.
- Tracking: {conversions_tracking}, {zone_id}, {site_id}, {variation_id} and {cost} on every URL; postbacks for signup and first payment.
- Filtering: exclude hosting and anonymous proxy traffic from day one.
- Day 3 to 5: block non-converting zones, pause losing variations, raise bids on winners.
- After the first paid conversions: enable Smart Bid on the stronger campaign, Maximize Volume, with a target CPA set from your own economics.
Once ExoClick is profitable, layer in other channels. The adult traffic sources guide covers affiliates, SEO and social, and the paid traffic playbook covers pre-landers and funnel design in depth.
Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum deposit on ExoClick?
ExoClick works on pre-payment only, and its payments documentation sets the minimum at 200 EUR/USD for every payment method, including card, wire transfer, Paxum and crypto. Card and most other deposits post instantly; wire transfers take longer. EU advertisers without a valid VAT number have 21% VAT deducted, so factor that into the first test budget.
Does ExoClick allow AI girlfriend and AI companion ads?
ExoClick's documentation does not publish a dedicated AI or chatbot policy, but it describes its mobile instant message format as very efficient for dating and live cam products, and adult offers are its core business. Campaigns still go through 24/7 compliance review, so keep characters clearly adult, avoid real likenesses and read the full advertiser guidelines first.
How many conversions does ExoClick Smart Bid need?
According to ExoClick's Smart Bid documentation, optimization typically begins once a campaign records 5 conversions for its target goal, and it usually takes around 20 to 30 conversions for the model to hold the target consistently. Until then it bids at your initial CPM. Changing the goal or target resets the learning, so avoid frequent edits.
What is the best ExoClick format for an AI companion site?
Mobile instant message is a strong first choice because a chat-style unit matches a chat product, and ExoClick itself calls the format efficient for dating offers. Popunder adds cheap volume for landing page testing. Full-page interstitials and native widgets are good second tests once you know which characters and angles convert.
Which tracker works with ExoClick?
ExoClick publishes setup manuals for several third-party trackers, including Voluum, RedTrack, Binom, Keitaro and AdsBridge, and supports both server-to-server postbacks and a JavaScript pixel. For subscription and token sales, fire the postback from your payment webhook using the stored click ID, because pixels miss conversions on hosted payment pages.
